So what if Kay’s pop culture references are her desperately trying to grasp onto her connections to Earth since no-one else seems to care and if she can’t convince others it was real she needs to convince herself otherwise she’ll just be nothing and its part of the bigger picture of how the comic is about how that feeling of loneliness and isolation in a giant world can be felt by anybody and how we always try to fill it in somehow, we see it in Scrabatha stowing away so she could be a silly teen, in Arizona when he left because he didn’t think he could be a good gaurdian to Kay, and in FC not wanting to work for Upstreem. I dunno just a thought
Another thought: Thestrich is funny and girlbossfailure coded and also Im going into analysis mode again since I think her telling Kay not to leave dead air when talking led to her being more confident in making pop culture references, shes masking her sadness with jokes, baby!
Third thought: Theres symbolism in the trash in the water while Upstreem continues operating to increase profits but im all analysessed out to think of what it means okay byeeeee
